Barbara Rainey

April 8, 2008

Since the Rainey children are taking seriously God’s command to “be fruitful and multiply” I thought I’d share a photo of our most recent addition. This is grandchild #12, Norah Anne Petrik, born March 15th. I just returned home from spending a few days coaching our daughter, Deborah, with this her firstborn, in the art of newborn care; nursing, burping, scheduling, sleeping, and keeping herself rested and well fed. I also gave her husband, Jason, some tips on how to be a good cheerleader for Deborah. I hope he remembers them!

Today, your program was God's gift to me. My husband and I have tried to provide a Christian home for our children; a home where the love of Christ was shared on a daily basis. Our daughter, the youngest, has always been the one with the most PASSION for Christ. At 16, she went to Africa to serve as a missionary; at 17 and 18 she traveled to Southern France to do secret mission work. In 2006 she began college. She became involved in FCA, joined a church, and began attending a bible study. While my husband and I missed her, we were thrilled that she had continued her walk with Christ. In the Fall of 2007 something began to change. Then in March of this year (2008), our daughter calls and says, "I am gay." Miraculously, my husband and I remained calm on the outside, but on the inside we felt like our child had died. We continued to assure her of our and God's unconditional love, but at the same time gently remind her of God's truths concerning homosexuality. We encoureaged her to see

Hi, I have been listening to your program this week on the radio and I have had
two sons both go off to college, have now graduated, one is now married and the
other is going to be married in Aug. So my husband and I have gone through the
empty nest stuff, and I agree, it can be very lonely. I believe it was harder
for my husband since he was sooo close to our sons, yet I also had my moments too.
I am trying to look at this next step after Jordan is married, as a time when Jerry
and I can reconnect and do sometings with maybe another couple. I do have a good
friend who has also gone through empty nest too, so we have had a good bond there.
Thank you for your comments and insites to help us through these hard times.
